I see there is no “self” without fundamentally everything else being “other” – self defines itself from the experience and perception of a boundary, a skin that contains me here — other there. The business of being a self is all about defining relationships, identifications and transactions internally and with others . Loving, rejecting, projecting, manipulating, serving — all in the service of maintaining the experience of self — so yes, vital, these infinite others. But who are they? And I am puzzled by your encouragement to really listen, to really get others. I don’t know how I can disengage from the filters of my interpretations and manipulations of what I see and hear to be in a place where I truly “get” another’s experience. I mean, I’m a good listener occasionally, but I have a feeling you’re not talking about that. I’m stuck thinking you’re describing some kind of barely attainable magical power, like much of your work. 🙂
