Knowing about something is not the same as genuine understanding, so the first thing to do is understand the assertion. Not just what comes to mind when encountering the idea, but what you can glean by applying an unbiased listening. Don’t stop with some automatic impression – reach out to experience the communication as intended, without filter, alteration or bias.
